It’s not her words that tell tales,
It’s her silence that hides tales
She hides a thousand truths fiercely
within the tempest that blows in her calm eyes

She says very little sometimes
not because she has nothing to say
but because no words can ever express
the countless emotions her heart holds

She fights silent battles with smouldering intensity
against her insecurities, against her imperfections,
against the blaring horns inside her brain that shouts
that she is not enough, that she could have done better

She had the kindest heart that forgave
every single person who hurt her,
every sharp word that tore her apart
Yet, she had the coldest heart
that refused to forgive the mistakes she made
however small it might be, however trivial it might be

She wondered if she is good enough, she pondered if they would love her
Things she knew she shouldn’t care about
Yet, she kept on caring about

They say she needs diamonds and gold
But what she really needed was
to be loved, to be appreciated, to be cared for and respected
As simple as her needs are, yet so little she ever got it
She had a heart of gold
but it lay hidden away from her own eyes and soul

She fights battles you know nothing about
She cries tears you will never understand why

She hides her angst behind her laugh
She hides her tears with a brush of her hand

She is stronger than you imagine
She takes pride in being the mess she is
She doesn’t need your pity, she doesn’t need your judgement
She knows she can be a disaster at times
But, she is perfectly happy being that disaster

She is happy to be herself
Don’t even dare to drop your sympathy on her
She will mock at your folly,
For she knows how to rise up from ashes
Because it’s a game she practices a lot

But, if by any chance you look at her and wonder out loud
What’s there in her mind, what’s that she is thinking about
Listen to her silence and hear the words she never says
Because she says it the best when she says nothing at all.
