She was always a warrior

From the moment she let out her first cry

To the moment she let out her last trickle

From the moment the judging glances gaped

and shrugged their heads to utter “Oh! It is a girl”

To the moment the appreciating glances gaped

and nodded their heads to utter “Oh! She is awesome”

She was the warrior princess

From the moment she haughtily made faces at naysayers

who proclaimed that she should be coy and docile

to the moment she leapt up and achieved the unachievable

Proclaiming out loud that she is not coy but confident

She was the warrior princess

From the moment she brushed aside

the so-called “marriageable age norms”

To the moment she embraced love and passion

at an age and time, she decided

She was the warrior princess

From the moment she arrogantly threw away the veils

that demanded her to hide within the four walls of solitude

to the moment she threw her hands up in the air

and demanded respect within the million walls of admiration

She was the warrior queen

From the moment she shut up the so-called “well-wishers”

who rolled out a checklist on how to cradle her bundle of joy

To the moment she beamed with pride

as her little one scaled new heights without a checklist to aid

She was the warrior queen

From the moment she chose her profession and respect

Fighting every prick of guilt pierced deep by the eyes that popped wide

To the moment she ruled the desks and stole the spotlight

Being the multitasker who can cradle & command at the same time

She was the warrior queen

From the moment she raised her hands up and hollered a “No”

Against the lustful advances and distasteful comments

To the moment she rested her hands on her hips and hollered a “Yes”

As her wrongdoers hanged their heads in shame and regret

She was the warrior queen

From the moment she decided not to sacrifice

her smile, her laugh, her health and her love

To the moment she perfectly balanced self-love and selfless care

in a synchronized melody that made her heart leap with joy.

She was the warrior empress

From the moment she let her little birds leave the nest

And fly over the horizons away from her warmth

To the moment she closed her eyes in contentment and pride

leaving no burdens to the generations that follow

leaving lessons of pride to the generations that follow

She was always a warrior

From the moment she let out her first cry

To the moment she let out her last trickle
